The student presented her thesis.
Q, Pokrivčáková: Could you trace some shifts in reception, could the meaning be shifted? A: I think shifts influence it a lot. For example Snape's character. It is interesting to see how much love Snape receives these days. It is important for the author as well, she mentioned she likes inspiring people. Q, Pokrivčáková: Which other phenomena would be interesting to study for you? A: Crossovers. I think they are very challenging. Q: Did you consult any primary sources for the theoretical part, in particular for the chapter on intertextuality? Can you justify using secondary sources instead of primary ones? A: For me when I first started this work, intertextuality and fan books were new to me, I tried to introduce them, but my goal was not to study intertextuality on its own. I didn't want to compare many theories, I wanted to introduce the basics of intertextuality. Q, Charvátová: Well, you said it in abstract. It seems like an important part. I think it's insufficient. Q: Why did you use Urban Dictionary and Cambridge Dictionary of English to define fanfiction terminology? A: Fanfictioin is very new term and there are not that many official literary dictionaries, I worked with them to see how they work with these terms and if they add them to their vocabulary. I couldn't find any other definition. It is such a new genre. Q, Charvátová: There is some literature, I can give you some references later if you want to. Q: What are the "intertextual techniques" considered in the interpretation of the fanfiction based on? Why were they selected for the analysis? A: I used them because I could see them in the text and I thought they would correspond with the theoretical part. Q, Charvátová: Could you mention them? A: Influence of the canon story. Citation, quotation. That sometimes in fanfiction the author is not that important. Q, Charvátová: You do not mention anything about intertextuality in the theory. Q, What is the difference between the influence of the canon story and replenishing of the canon story? A: People can take some element of the story and use it in their fan fiction but in their own view. But they can add some other information. But replenishing are some aspects which are not in the canon books and used in the other works. Q, Bell: (Gives an example of a footnote citation.) Is that CMS? What is op. cit.? A: It's like I have already given that citation. I'm not sure. Opakovaná citace. Q, Bell: So you're using Czech? What style is it? A: I'm not sure. My advisor said I should use this. Q, Bell: Can you fix this? A: (The student answered well.) Q, Charvátová: You are not consistent, sometimes you use ibid. A: I thought I could use it this way.
