Záznam průběhu obhajoby
Q: What similarities and differences can be described between John (BNW) and Katniss (HG), e.g. in the emotional journeys the two characters make?
A: They embody our current society. John is pragmatic. Katniss is more spontaneous. She does not understand that her behavior could cause a revolution. She shows she can fight president Snow.
Q: Aldous Huxley was a British author, Suzanne Collins is an American. Does it have any influence on the novels?
A: There are few references. In HG we find out that Panem rose from ashes of America. Also reference, Capitol lies in the mountains, called Rockies. District 12 is near Appalachian mountains.
Q: What about cultural reference between British and American cultures?
A: Difficult to see these days when the mass media changes our perception of the world, in terms of globalization.
Q: What is the attitude towards knowledge in these 2 novels? What role does knowledge play?
A: Katniss does not understand what is happening, she learns about the reality, about president Snow. She realizes they need a victor and that it is just a game. In BNW: John can compare this to words. He has the knowledge of the passed, from Shakespeare. He sympathizes with John, but because he is a director and is responsible. Katniss is not very educated, she has practical knowledge.
