This bachelor's thesis analyzes and compares one speech from the early days of the activist career of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the second speech from the period right before his death in terms of rhetorical devices and allusions to the Bible in both speeches. The background information gives pertinent details about King's life, relevant details about American society in the mid-20th century, King's religious and other beliefs, as well as a description of his rhetoric and chosen rhetorical devices. Záznam průběhu obhajoby
Student představil svou bakalářskou práci. Po přečtení posudků členové komise položili následující otázky:
What are differences between the rhetoric and / or messages of Malcolm X as compared to King? Are there any similarities? Be as specific and concrete as possible, i.e. what did each man want?
Several scholars have commented on the fact that ''textual appropriation,‘‘ i.e., plagiarism, is not only present in King’s speeches and sermons but increased in breadth and frequency over time. Did you notice plagiarism in either of the texts you analyzed, and if so, to what degree?
What was the methodological basis for your analysis?
What were the biblical allusions King used?
Is it possible to compare a sermon and a public speech?
