This work examines popular representations of artificial intelligence and robots (especially humanoid) in American cinematography. It does so by identifying common features among the films, as well as those which are different, and connecting them with the real-world attitudes towards modern technology. By delving into the past, it should be possible to explain why certain phenomena presented in the films are so popular. All in all, this work tries to understand the relations between fiction and the actual problems, currently discussed in the U.S.

Záznam průběhu obhajoby
Should human-like androids or other "autonomous machines" (40) be programmed to "feel" emotions, or at least to replicate human physical activities connected to emotions? If so, what emotions? What would be the advantages or disadvantages for the consumer of this "product"?
If you want to educate a human being, how can a robot be an example for a child?
Are you saying we should get rid of emotions?
How do we know there are emotions in a machine?
In the film, does the little boy/robot have emotions, or just appear to have emotions?
Is Metropolis an American movie?
One of the significant omissions in the thesis is Brian Aldiss. Why should this person be mentioned?
