Student představil svou práci. Po přečtení posudků komise položila následující otázky:
Can you tell me your thesis statement in a sentence or two? What did you actually argue in your thesis?
What other writers were there in this period? Can you put Cooper in the proper literary context?
The Leatherstocking Tales - were they the first American novels? Was Cooper the first American author to write novels?
What does repugnance mean? How does it apply to races? Was "natural repugnance" Thomas Jeffersons' term?
Does Cooper share Walter Scott’s conviction of historical progress?
Is Cooper uncritical with regard to the progress of American civilization? What did he criticize?
