Can you describe some differences between the works and life of Kate Chopin and one other women writer who was writing at the same time or who came before her?
What novel is Charlotte Perkins Gilman best known for?
Which of the two novels would you more readily recommend to young women readers today? Why?
Could you please summarize, in one or two sentences, the main argument that you are making in
the thesis? What evidence confirms or disconfirms the position you are taking?
On page 12, there is the following sentence: “Mathematics was fundamental in the South, where
young women would keep records on the plantation.” Since the thesis is concerned with the late
19th century in the US, what was the connection between the civil status of women at that time and the issue of slavery that led to the American Civil War (1861-1865)?
How long after the Civil War were the two novels written?
